Training

As a high-performance club, the Renegades follow a rigorous training schedule. This schedule aligns with Water Polo Canada’s long-term athlete development (LTAD), ensuring athletes are developing physically, emotionally, mentally, and cognitively. We provide appropriate levels of training for all of our age groups, 15U through Senior, to support them in achieving each of their provincial, national, and international athletic and academic goals.

Our athletes are training to compete and win National Championships, be named to provincial or national teams, or continue playing on post-secondary teams with the OUA and NCAA. This is accomplished through structured training sessions, including a blend of in-water, dryland, and strength and conditioning. We focus on skill development, technical and tactical advancement, as well as teamwork and leadership initiatives. Depending on the age group and COVID restrictions, Renegade athletes will train between 6-10 hours per week.

In addition to club training, Renegade athletes also have the opportunity to participate in the Calgary National Legacy Centre run by Water Polo Canada. This program is designed for athletes who wish to participate at a provincial, national, and post-secondary level. More information on the Legacy Centre can be found on the AWPA website.

All training takes place at the MNP Community & Sport Centre (formerly Repsol Sport Centre) in downtown Calgary.
